Social Anxiety The effect of all forms of social anxiety on sufferers and a the people who care for them can be great putting enormous pressures on relationships. What is Social Anxiety? Social anxiety is the most common of the range of anxiety disorders that effect people today. As in all anxiety disorders it is characterised by fear of certain things or situations. In this case the person with social anxiety fears the negative opinion of others. Because of this they avoid social settings or any situation in which they believe they might be negatively evalutated. In extreme cases socially anxious people may become so avoidant that they become aggoraphobic. What is the effect of Social Anxiety on Relationships? The sufferer will often avoid social situations, which means that their partners either have to go alone or they don't go at all. Many times the people who care for sufferers of social anxiety become frustrated and resentful at the impact of their loved ones condition of themselves.
